After facing backlash for his behavior on Love Is Blind contestant Abhishek "Shake" Chatterjee is finally apologizing to his former fiancé Deepti Vempati. Shake rubbed fans wrong all the way back in the pods when he began his Love Is Blind journey by asking women coded questions to try and gauge their weight. Once he was called out, by Deepti no less, he quickly apologized and changed his approach. Deepti was able to look past the situation, and the two ended up getting engaged after finding common ground within their culture. Only the comments didn't stop there. As soon as the couple made it out of the pods and onto Mexico Shake began speaking about not having any physical attraction to Deepti. A serious problem for sure, but something Shake could have spoken to Deepti about in private rather than the approach he chose.
Every person Shake interacted with, from cast to crew, to Shake's own mom, he told about this lack of physical attraction. And didn't exactly use the kindest words either. While it didn't make the final edit, plenty of cast members warned Deepti about Shake's behavior, which led to her rejecting Shake at the altar. While Shake may have apologized early on, his actions tell a different story. He's since doubled down on everything he's done and said in the show. Something that hasn't gone over well with the cast, or the fans. After facing an intense amount of backlash following the Season 2 Reunion, in which Shake said he wasn't sorry for how he behaved in the slightest, Shake is now apologizing to Deepti.
The apology video, which was posted to Shake's Instagram, begins with, "I wanted to take this opportunity to, really just say sorry to a woman that I know I hurt. And Deepti, I am truly sorry for some of the things that I said. Things that honestly just could have been left unsaid or could have been said differently. Things that never should have been on national television." At the Love Is Blind reunion special, it was revealed that what made the final edit wasn't even the worst of what Shake had said. Shake also mentioned, for seemingly no reason, how he was aware their engagement was not going to end in marriage. Shake ended the video with, "And I'm so so sorry that I hurt you with my words. It's the last thing I wanted from all this. I'm sorry Deepti."
Since Season 2 started airing Deepti has been very open about her family's stance, explaining that they opened their home to Shake, and in return, he disrespected their daughter. Something Shake seemed to note as he added in the caption, "While I’ve reached out privately, I think it’s also important I apologize publicly for the sake of your family and friends that I’ve upset as well." Unsurprisingly his apology has not been met with much of a positive response. While Deepti herself hasn't made a statement, the comment section is littered with fans calling Shake out for being disingenuous.
Given everything Shake has said about Deepti, she was certainly owed an apology. However, after behaving the way he did on the show and only apologizing after causing a ruckus at the reunion and on social media afterwards, its obvious why some fans and his fellow cast members don't believe he's totally genuine. Most of the comments are calling this attempt "damage control" after his appearance at the reunion didn't go as intended. While Deepti hasn't made any official comments yet, it's safe to say the drama isn't over yet.
