After speculation of a delay and rumors that a release date announcement was imminent, Gotham Knights finally has an official release date. Originally announced at DC FanDome in 2020, the Gotham Knights release date had previously been set to some time in 2022, with no specific month or day attached. Thankfully, fans now know exactly when to expect the newest DC game to launch.

As previously announced, Gotham Knights has a pretty interesting premise. Taking place after Bruce Wayne/Batman's ostensible death, players will control Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood instead as they protect Gotham City from iconic foes like Mr. Freeze. However, the Court of Owls and its Talon assassins appear to play the largest antagonistic role.

The reveal for Gotham Knights was met with a lot of initial excitement, but as news slowed down recently, there were rumors the game was delayed. This was largely due to the other upcoming DC game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League being delayed (reportedly) until 2023. Although that game is developed by Rocksteady rather than WB Montreal (which is handling Gotham Knights), the COVID-19 pandemic had already caused multiple delays in the industry, so it seemed at least plausible.

Thankfully, Gotham Knights now has an official release date so fans can know when to expect it. The official Gotham Knights release date is October 25, 2022. Still, its unceremonious reveal on social media left some fans wondering how certain this release date would be. There was no new trailer and no additional gameplay - just a title image with the date.

Although a Gotham Knights delay is certainly possible, having a concrete release date makes it seem less likely now. Games with previous release dates have been known to face delays still, however, with Forspoken's delay to October after having a concrete May release date being a recent example. Still, with only about seven months to go, it's unlikely WB Montreal would announce a release date for Gotham Knights unless it was pretty confident the game would hit that mark.

Keeping with the tone of prowling Gotham City at night and the general creepiness of the Court of the Owls, it looks like Gotham Knights is already shaping up to be a fun Halloween game this season. While delays - for a variety of reasons - are always possible, the October 25 release date for Gotham Knights seems pretty sound. Hopefully, fans shouldn't have to wait too much longer to play as Batgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hood in the newest DC game.
